Solution
Modernization of the Library and Information Center by implementing an RFID system for library automation, expanding the capabilities of the software platform for library management, server infrastructure construction, delivery of computer equipment, network infrastructure construction, delivery of equipment and software for people with disabilities.
Delivered equipment and software
- Delivery, installation, configuration, commissioning and warranty maintenance of: energy-saving terminal stations and computers (incl. Notebooks) by Dell and Ncomputing, and Kyocera peripherals.
- Multimedia equipment for organizing presentations and group work by Optoma
- Library servers Dell with UPS equipment for upgrade of the network infrastructure, and building a unified database of the Library and Information Center
- Licensed software: (Windows 7, MSOffice 2010, MSWindows Server 2012, Fine Reader Professional Edition + Bulgarian dictionary (for an OCR system), Adobe
- Antivirus software – development of modules upgrading the existing library software “Automated Library”, version 2012 , in order to extend the functionality in the following aspects: possibility for setting personal and group passwords of users in the module for electronic filing of readers and administration of passwords
- Provision of bibliographic and electronic resources with access levels by reader passwords
- Exchange of electronic records and digitized documents with other libraries in the country
- Provision of (wireless) Internet access
- Equipment of a room for video training and multimedia presentations (multimedia projector, screen, laptop, LCD screen for presentations, video and DVD player)
- Delivery and deployment of an RFID system for library servicing optimization, network communication installation, testing, equipment and software deployment and training for work / use
Benefits
Through the modernization of the Library and Information Center, MU-Plovdiv significantly improved the performance in servicing readers, optimized the time of routine activities of the staff, increased the level of security in the library, automated a number of processes, provided opportunities for new services to users.
Thanks to this project, the library of MU-Plovdiv won the prestigious award of the international competition Science and Education in Oxford for the best university library in 2014.
