A New State-of-the-Art Renewable Energy Laboratory Opened at the Technical University of Sofia

from 07/11/2024

On November 7, 2024, a new educational and research laboratory dedicated to renewable energy sources was inaugurated at the Technical University of Sofia. The project was carried out with the financial and expert support of Kontrax AD and aims to train future specialists in the field.

The laboratory was established after a complete renovation of one of the university’s classrooms in Building 1. It is equipped with modern technologies and apparatus designed for research and practical training in renewable energy sources (RES). The newly established training facility will be available to students specializing in "Smart Grids and Renewable Energy Systems", as well as to other disciplines within the Faculty of Computer Systems and Technologies at the Technical University.

The laboratory will provide:

  • Practical training for working with solar panels and the integration of smart software solutions in the RES sector.
  • State-of-the-art equipment, including inverters, test stations, and monitoring systems that enable real-world simulations of working with RES.
  • Management and safety systems, allowing work with smart grids and the integration of RES into the power grid.

One of the lecturers in the laboratory will be Antouan Angelov, an assistant professor at the Faculty of Computer Systems and Technologies at the Technical University of Sofia. He has extensive experience in smart grids and renewable energy sources and has dedicated his career to training future engineers who will contribute to the sustainable development and modernization of the energy sector. He will be leading the "Smart Grids and Renewable Energy Systems" course.

The establishment of this laboratory marks another significant step by the Technical University of Sofia toward modernizing education and fostering innovation in the energy sector.
