25 years of KONTRAX - past and future through the eyes of Yordan Yordanov, CEO

from 20/09/2017

Yordan Yordanov, CEO of KONTRAX held a guest appearance in the „Darik Radio“ studio in light of the 25th anniversary of the company, follows an excerpt of the interview.

Mr Yordanov, in 9 consecutive series of the show, your colleagues presented different, big, and socially significant company projects. Would you please tell us something now for the business itself, about how these 25 years have passed, what were the biggest challenges for you?

These 25 years seem to have flown by for me personally. Going through the „25 years of Kontrax“ album now, which we put out as a brief history of facts and photos in honour of the anniversary, I have the feeling as if everything was one breath. Everything is so clear in my mind, that it feels like it was yesterday.

Business world-wise, it was not a smooth sail at all. We have gone through hyperinflation, devaluation, a lot of political and social changes, through ruthless and at times disloyal competition. To put it in a few words: it was not easy.

What, on your opinion, is the most important thing for a business to survive and flourish? What is the successful business' secret?

Oh, the most important thing is so simple that everybody knows it, but as it is with all simple things, the "doing" part is too complicated: to create and keep a team, a team that will face and overcome all difficulties together – this is the most important thing!

But the secret of success is surely more nuanced than that and depends on the stuff you deal with, I would say consistency, passion for hard work, optimism, being professional, and a number of such other nice words, but I am sure that consistency comes first – without consistency there is no success, or at least only temporary success.

What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs? What would you do if you were a young businessman?

I would encourage them to go into entrepreneurship, because this is the most exciting and fun thing to do – they will never get tired of it, but they have to love challenges and stay very consistent, the often change of craft is usually doomed to fail.

They must know that 3 components make a successful business: a market - meaning there is demand, initial capital and people, human resources which to fulfil your intentions with. You can do without one of the first two: a market with a good product/service can be overtaken in the long run by investing in advertising, marketing, etc., without capital you can also do at first (if you have a market, demand, and a product, you will find the financing), but without the third component – human resources, meaning people with whom to develop things you cannot do, in this case you will lose both the market and your money.

If I am a young businessman, I would start my business in Bulgaria, because at home even the walls help, and in a developing economy like ours there are even more opportunities for young people, compared to already developed economies.
